Feb 27: hoping everyone will see if they have a gas leak and another explosion

Our house blew up this weekend on Saturday night, we got out with virtually no injuries and so did our cats. Please everyone, go walk around your house especially paying attention to where your gas meter is and take a wiff to see if you smell anything. After our weekend, my brother in Chicago area did a safety walk around his house and his gas meter had a significant leak this morning so the emergency crew came out to fix it in about 15 minutes. They said this cold weather causes contraction of parts and cracks in gaskets can occur. We were all lucky but I would hate to see anyone hurt. Also get all your families to do the same.

  Robert Villamagna Barbara, I thought you would appreciate this story. On Monday, March 2, a student of mine arrived home from class. As she was getting her portfolio out of the back of her vehicle, the house across the street exploded and then burst into flames.   This is my brother Rich who found a gas leak at his house this morning when checking after our house exploded on Saturday night.

  Important:
  NICOR GAS came to our house this morning to repair a significant gas leak at our meter.
  I noticed the odor when I was leaving for work and quickly called the NICOR emergency number.
  The tech was there in 15 minutes and did the repair.
  Please do a walk by of your gas meter outside - remember: metal, rubber... Expand and contract with temp changes. This is what the tech said about what caused our leak.
